Topic 10 - Problems

Q: What do you think is your primary role as a teacher in helping adolescents manage the types of difficult problems addressed in this topic?

A: My role as a teacher is to be aware of any changes in students behaviour. Since I likely will be the adult who the student spends the most time around I will be instrumental in informing their parents regarding any concerns or changes that the student is experiencing so that there can be a team of people looking out and supporting the student, My role as a teacher is also to create the kind of classroom atmosphere that allows a student or makes them feel comfortable enough to come to me when they are experiencing problems in case I overlook anything I should have noticed as potentially leading to a problem. One thing I thought of doing is to have a locked mailbox somewhere where students can leave me notes, even if they are anonymous, this will still give students who are maybe uncomfortable addressing their problem or situation, the opportunity to get help.
